Golfers Place Second at NCAA Championship

UCLA's second-ranked women's golf team recorded its second consecutive runner-up finish Friday at the NCAA Championship at Caves Valley in Owings Mills, MD.

The Bruins posted a final round team score of 297 (+9) for a 72-hole total of 1,190 (+38). UCLA finished one stroke in front of arch-rival USC, which took third after relinquishing a two-stroke lead at the start of the day.

Top-ranked Arizona State won its seventh NCAA title in women's golf with a four-round total of 1,162 (+30). The national title was ASU's first in women's golf since 1998.

UCLA senior Tiffany Joh ended her brilliant college career by posting a two-over par 74. Joh completed her last round with a birdie at the 72nd hole and a one-under par inward nine score of 35. She tied for 25th place at 12-over par 300.

Sophomore Glory Yang carded the Bruins' best score of the day, a one-over par 73. She also birdied the 18th hole and tied for 32nd at 302 (+14).

Sophomore Maria Jose Uribe tied for eighth place at 295 (+7) following a final round 77 (+5). The 36-hole leader made just one birdie in the final round.

Freshman Stephanie Kono tied for 16th place at 298 (+10). Kono posted a score of 75 (+3) in the final round with one birdie and four bogeys.

Junior Sydnee Michaels also posted a score of 75 (+3) and tied for 39th place at 304 (+16).

In the last six years, UCLA has recorded five podium finishes at the NCAA Championship, including a title in 2004.
