May 27, 2009

Junior Megan Langenfeld and sophomore Katie Schroeder were named NFCA First-Team All-Americans on Wednesday, while senior Amanda Kamekona was honored as a Third-Team All-American. The accolades are the second All-American honors for both Kamekona and Langenfeld and the first for Schroeder.

Last season, Kamekona and Langenfeld were each named Third-Team All-Americans. The two first-team mentions for Langenfeld and Schroeder mark the second straight season UCLA has garnered a pair of first-team honors. The Bruins have earned 95 All-American awards.

Schroeder led the Bruins with a .402 batting average, 14 home runs, 55 runs scored, a .684 slugging percentage, 33 walks, a .516 on base percentage and 19 stolen bases. She started all 56 games this season and had 33 runs batted in. Schroeder was tops on the team with 18 multiple-hit games and became just the sixth player in UCLA history to record at least 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases in the same season. The sophomore posted hitting streaks of at least seven games four times, including a career-high 13-game streak from March 28 to April 26. Schroeder was named to the NFCA All-West Region and First-Team All-Pac-10 squads.

Langenfeld also earned NFCA All-West Region and First-Team All-Pac-10 honors after leading the Bruins at the plate and in the circle over the last two months of the season. The junior posted a team-best ERA of 1.24 with a 17-3 record and 112 strikeouts in 141 2/3 innings. She had 12 complete games, including a pair of four-hitters during the final weekend of the regular season to help UCLA clinch the Pac-10 title. With her bat, Langenfeld hit .369, which was second on the team, adding seven home runs and 30 runs batted in. She hit a robust .529 in the final two months and racked up the in-season accolades. Langenfeld was named NFCA National Player of the Week and Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week twice, as well as USA Softball National POW and Pac-10 Player of the Week once.

Kamekona, another member of the NFCA All-West Region and First-Team All-Pac-10 club for the Bruins, hit .318 in her final season in Westwood, making all 56 starts.
