May 27, 2009

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Three members of Arizona's softball team earned a Pac-10 All-Academic team citation, as announced Tuesday by Commissioner Tom Hansen.

Senior outfielder Jill Malina and junior shortstop K'Lee Arredondo both made the first team, while sophomore centerfielder Lauren Schutzler earned a second team citation.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or a significant contributor.

Malina, who earned her first career postseason start against UT Martin in the Regional round, compiled a 3.71 GPA in Physical Education.

Arredondo made the list for the second straight season, touting a 3.64 GPA in Psychology.

Schutzler's hard work in the classroom earned her a 3.43 GPA, though she has not yet declared a major.

Notes: Arizona third baseman Jenae Leles was also tabbed a member of the All-Senior All-American second team, as selected by the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Committee.

Up Next: Arizona will practice at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium tonight at 5:30 p.m.
