May 28, 2009

STANFORD, Calif. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced its first round of 2009 season awards on May 26, and numerous Stanford athletes and assistant coach Vaclav Kacir received honors. Five athletes were selected to the All-West Region first and second teams and seven athletes earned Scholar-Athlete honors.

Adrienne Fritsch, Jenna Levy, Elle Logan, and Erika Roddy earned All-West Region First Team honors, while Grace Luczak was chosen to the second team. These five were selected after the CRCA evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Also, each woman selected must have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season. These athletes will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships. The NCAA regatta will be held May 29-31 on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.

Fritsch, Roddy were also honored as CRCA Scholar-Athletes, and are joined by teammates Alex Hasbach, Lauren Hofmayer, Cassie Kull, Julie Smith, and Michelle Vezie on the list. Those athletes selected as Scholar-Athlete must be in at least their second year of eligibility, have maintained at least a 3.5 grade-point-average throughout their academic career, and have rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.

Finally, assistant coach Dr. Vaclav Kacir was selected as the CRCA West Region Assistant Coach of the Year. The Assistant Coach of the Year award is designed to recognize an assistant coach or associate head coach who meets one or more of the following criteria: Outstanding commitment to his/her program, made a significant impact on the success of his/her program and demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coach.
