NCAA Rowing Day Three - Quotes
May 31, 2009
Director of Rowing and Women's Head Coach Bob Ernst:
On the team's seventh place finish:'I think that's about where we are right now, about the seventh- or eighth-best team here. It's disappointing. We've got a lot of work to do. It's not an easy process trying to rebuild this team to get back on top.'
On the performance of the varsity eight over the weekend:
'I think they did the best they could. The three races the varsity boat had out here were pretty consistent with the final results. That's about where they are.'
On his impressions of the team in general and the future of the program:'Overall, we have a lot of freshmen here on this team. Potential's not worth a thing unless you do something with it, so we'll see how they're prepared when they come back to school in the fall. That will be a hallmark of what we get out of this year.'
Assistant Coach Nicole Minett on the performance of the varsity four:
'This was a great experience for the freshman women in the four. There was some strong racing from the grand final to the petite final. It was a good result for them sprinting through the end, even with the photo finish with Michigan. It was a nice finish. We have to get faster for this championship next year.'
Varsity Eight Seven Seat Adrienne Martelli:
On the performance of her boat and the team:
'Tough race for sure. I don't really remember much of the race, but it's disappointing. Any time you don't win is disappointing. I just don't think we executed what we came out here to do. But our JV did really well. We're looking forward to next year.'
On how the varsity eight rowed in the petite final:
'We came out here to do the best we could and I think we could have done better. It is what it is. It's over.'
On how the team moves forward from here:
'This is just a starting point for next year. We'll all try and stay fit over the summer and come back ready to roll. We need to get better and keep pushing.'
