Lagreid and Fanelli Named Pac-10 Baseball All-Academic First Team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Senior catcher Greg Lagreid and junior utility player Matt Fanelli were selected to the 2009 Pacific-10 Baseball All-Academic First Team highlighting six Cougar student-athletes recognized for their efforts in the classroom.
It is the second-straight year both Lagreid and Fanelli were named to the first team. A native of Edmonds, Wash., Lagreid posted a 3.48 grade point average in finance. Fanelli has a 3.77 GPA in psychology and is a native of Olympia, Wash.
Redshirt-junior relief pitcher Jeremy Johnson garnered second team honors with a 3.12 GPA in finance. A native of Centralia, Wash., Johnson was honorable mention in 2007.
Senior outfielder Jared Prince, junior infielder Michael Weber and redshirt-sophomore catcher Jay Ponciano received honorable mention. It is the third-straight honorable mention for Prince, a general studies major with a 3.08 GPA who is from Poulsbo, Wash. Weber is a Seattle native with a 3.08 GPA in finance and is honorable mention for the second-straight year. Ponciano, a native of Vancouver, Wash., is a first-time recipient, and carries a 3.14 GPA in management operations.
The Cougars recently completed their season with a 32-25 record and their first trip to the NCAA postseason since 1990.
