Munoz Named Pac-10 Scholar of the Year, Presented by Toyo Tires, for Women's Golf

Arizona State golfer Azahara Munoz has been named Pac-10 Scholar Athlete of the Year, presented by Toyo Tires, for women's golf. To be eligible for the Pac-10 Scholar Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.
Munoz recently graduated from Arizona State with a 3.98 in psychology. She is a three-time first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honoree. She is the first-two time Edith Cummings Munson Award winner, the accolade given to the All-American with the highest GPA. Recently, Munoz was named to the ESPN the Magazine All-District VIII Academic first-team.
Munoz had one of the most celebrated careers in the prestigious history of Arizona State women's golf. This season, she led the Sun Devils to their seventh NCAA Championship and first since 1998. Munoz is a four-time All-American and capped her stellar career by tying for fourth at the NCAA Championships. She placed in the top 10 in tournament seven times and finished the season with a 71.72 stroke average.
