June 9, 2009

BERKELEY - California's varsity 8+ earned five berths on the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association's All-America teams, with seniors Lou Kinder and Iva Obradovic taking spots on the first team, and seniors Elena Humphreys, Lauren Nowinski and coxswain Katy Milton claiming spots on the second team. The varsity 8+ produced a 4-1 record during the 2009 season, which culminated with a second-place finish in the Pac-10 Rowing Championships on May 17 and a third-place finish at the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships on May 31. The performances of Cal's top boat propelled the Bears to the overall conference title and to a second-place team finish at the national regatta.

The Bears' 2008 squad produced four All-Americans. Mara Allen and current junior Taryn O'Connell were named to the CRCA's first team, while Krista Ellis and Candice Rediger, currently the team's director of student-athlete development, were on the second team.
