MLB First-Year Player Draft Begins Today

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The annual event known as the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft begins today and Oregon State fans can follow where the Beavers are selected by visiting

The online home of Oregon State Athletics will continually update stories on the web site with the team's selections. The first round is slated to start at 3 p.m. PT today. The first three rounds of the draft will be finished today; rounds 4-30 will go on Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. while 31-50 are scheduled for Thursday beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Oregon State has had at least one player selected every year since 1993. In 2006, the program had a record nine players taken. A year later, in 2007, the Beavers saw Eddie Kunz and Mitch Canham taken in the first round; it was the first time two OSU players were taken in the first round in the same year.

Over the past three seasons, the Beavers have had 21 different players drafted a total of 24 times.

Under head coach Pat Casey, who recently finished his 15th year with Oregon State, the Beavers have had 21 players drafted in the first nine rounds. Of those 21 selections, 20 signed professional contracts and 12 are currently playing for an affiliated organization.

Of the 35 players on the 2009 Oregon State roster, 12 have been previously selected by MLB clubs but did not sign.
