Look, Machado Honored by the Pac-10

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.- UCLA's Michael Look (men's tennis) and Jade Machado (women's volleyball) have been honored as the school's 2008-09 Pacific-10 Tom Hansen Conference Medal winners on Wednesday.

Look, from Redcliffe, Australia, was recently named the Pac-10 Spring Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's tennis, owning a 3.91 cumulative grade point average. A two-time First-Team All-Pac-10 Academic selection, Look enjoyed a fine 2009 season, achieving a career-high national singles ranking of No. 74. He was also ranked No. 52 nationally in doubles with partner Nick Meister. Look recently helped the Bruins advance to the semifinals at the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships in College Station, Texas. A singles quarterfinalist at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif., Look finished his senior season with a 19-9 overall mark in singles, and a 15-10 record in doubles play.

Machado, from Encinitas, Calif., was recently named Scholar-Athlete of the Year at UCLA's Scholar-Athlete Banquet. She was a first-team All-Pac-10 Academic selection all three years she was eligible (2006-08) and also received first-team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District accolades as a junior and second-team All-District as a sophomore and senior. She has been on the Director's Honor Roll every quarter, achieving a 4.0 GPA nine times. Machado boasts a 3.954 grade point average.

A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership. The Pac-10 recently renamed the award the Tom Hansen Conference Medal in honor of Hansen, who is retiring at the end of June after serving 26 years as Commissioner of the Pac-10.

The Tom Hansen Conference Medal winners will be honored at the State Farm Pride of the Pac-10 Breakfast held in Los Angeles in conjunction with the Pac-10 Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments next March. Following are the 2008-09 award winners:
