UCLA Men's Soccer Announces 2009 Schedule

June 15, 2009

The UCLA men's soccer team will kick off the 2009 season in August with a pair of exhibition home games before officially opening the season on Sept. 4 at defending NCAA Champion Maryland.

The trip to the East Coast to face Maryland and Georgetown highlights the non-conference schedule, along with a Halloween game at Creighton, which advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals last year. The Bruins have a total of 10 home games this season, including exhibition games vs. CSU Bakersfield on Aug. 23 and UC Irvine on Aug. 29. The home opener is on Sept. 10 vs. UC Davis, and the Pac-10 Conference home opener is against California on Oct. 16.

The Bruins return eight starters from last season's Pac-10 Championship squad, including 2008 Pac-10 Player of the Year and U.S. Under-20 National Team player Michael Stephens. Also returning are U.S. Under-20 National Team starting goalkeeper Brian Perk, 2007 Team MVP Kyle Nakazawa, and 2008 All-Pac-10 honorees David Estrada, Andy Rose and Danny Suits.
