Bruin Alum Hagenbuch Wins Amateur Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon
June 17, 2009
Bruin track and field/cross country alum, Henry Hagenbuch, competed at the 'Escape From Alcatraz' triathlon this past weekend in San Francisco, CA where he won his division.
Hagenbuch was the top amateur finisher out of roughly 2,000 competitors, completing the grueling course in a time of 2:20:56. Not only did he have the fastest run split of the day (including the Pros) by 50 seconds, but he also would have placed 16th in the Pro Athlete division, as he was competing in only the third triathlon of his career.
Because Hagenbuch finished in the top three of the amateur division at this USA Triathlon sanctioned event, he will receive his pro race card, thus allowing him to compete as a professional triathlete going forward. He will debut as a Pro at the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in September.
Hagenbuch was a 2008 outdoor All-American in the steeplechase and ranks fifth all-time in school history in the event (8:45.91).
