June 25, 2009
The Santa Rosa, Calif., Press-Democrat featured former UA All-American Jake Arnold in a recent story outlining his quest in the decathlon this weekend at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Arnold twice won the decathlon for the Wildcats in 2006 and 2007 at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, and since has become one of the top performers in the country. He currently is listed No. 4 among American contenders and will have to finish third in the U.S. meet to earn a spot in the IAFF World Championships in Berlin later in August.
He has four of the UA's top 10 historical decathlon performances including a school-record 8,215 points in the 2007 NCAA meet. He also had two top 5 finishes in the NCAA indoor meets those two years.
The Santa Rosa native majored in retail and consumer sciences at Arizona.
