Jeghers Qualifies for Under 23 World Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -
Mary Jeghers of the California women's rowing team won her pairs race with teammate Grace Luczak at the 2009 Under 23 World Championships Trials on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. on Thursday. The crew was one of 15 that qualified to represent the United States at the FISA World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, later this month.
In the three-crew race, Jeghers and Luczak crossed 7.6 seconds ahead of Felice Mueller and Lauren Shook to win in a time of 8:01.859. Rowing unaffiliated, Mueller and Shook clocked an 8:09.443. Penn A.C. Rowing Association's Jenn Agee and Mairi Trimboli finished third at 8:45.064.
Competing as a sophomore last season, Jeghers rowed on the varsity 8 that came in second at the Pac-10 Championships. She was also a Pac-10 All-Academic honorable-mention selection. As a freshman, she was named the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year.
The FISA World Rowing Under 23 Championships will take place from July 23-26.
