Two More Shutouts For Perk At Copa Ciudad de Rosario
July 28, 2009
UCLA senior Brian Perk continued his strong play for the U.S. Under-20 National team, posting his sixth and seventh shutouts of the year in a 2-0 win over C.A. Tiro Federal on Saturday and a shootout victory against Uruguay on Monday at the Copa Ciudad de Rosario in Argentina. Perk's goals against average now stands at a miniscule 0.12 on the year.
After battling to a scoreless draw in regulation despite playing with just 10 men for the final 63 minutes, the U.S. went to a shootout with Uruguay. The U.S. converted all five penalty kicks, and Uruguay made its first four shots. Perk saved the fifth and final penalty kick to give the U.S. the shootout victory.
In the team's opening game against C.A. Tiro Federal, Jorge Flores scored the United States' two goals. His second was set up by Bruin senior Michael Stephens, who had just entered the game. Stephens won the ball along the right sideline and played it ahead to Fuad Ibrahim, who then dished to Flores for the goal.
With the two results, the U.S. has five points in the tournament, receiving three for a win, one for a draw and an extra point for winning the shootout.
