Summer Fun Continues For USC Track Athletes

July 31, 2009

For the third time this summer Zsofia Erdelyi has established a USC record, this time breaking her own school 5000m record at the European U23 Championships in Lithuania.

Erdelyi placed fifth in the women's 5000m race at the European U23 Championships on July 19 with a time of 16.09.38 to break her mark of 16.14.55 which she established earlier in the summer (June 21) in Norway. Erdelyi previously set the school 10000m record in the same games with a time of 33:39.89 on July 17. She now holds USC's record in the 3000m steeplechase, 5000m and 10000m races.

Also at the European U23 championships, Kristine Busa set a PR in the javelin throw with a toss of 179-1 (54.58m). She remains second all-time by a Trojan in the event.

At the USA Track and Field Junior Olympic Championships, incoming freshman Lauren Chambers set the national youth record in the hammer throw with a winning mark of 175-8 (53.55m). She won the event by nearly 21 feet and broke the old record set in 2006 by nearly 13 feet.
