USA Team Update: Haber, Lappin Capture Japan Cup Gold

Sendai City, Japan - Current Cardinal outfielder Alissa Haber and alum Lauren Lappin '06 were part of the USA Softball Team that captured gold over the weekend at the 2009 Japan Cup in Sendai City, Japan.
With play beginning Friday, Team USA dominated Australia and Chinese Taipei in its first two games. On Saturday, the squad edged Japan to reach the gold medal game, then picked up a 2-0 win over the Japanese on Sunday to take home the hardware for the fifth time in the six-year history of the event.
Haber was 4-for-11 (.364) and scored five times in four games. She registered three RBI and belted a home run against Australia in the opener.
Lappin was 4-for-8 (.500) at the plate and tripled in the team's win over Chinese Taipei.
Across the world, rising sophomore Ashley Hansen is currently in action with the rest of Team USA at the Pan American Qualifier in Maracay, Venezuela. Missy Penna '09 will be competing in the event as well, as a pitcher for the Dominican National Team. That tournament runs through Sunday.
