THIS WEEK: Washington State opens its 20th Anniversary Season hosting Idaho at 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21.

ANNIVERSARY DINNER: The Washington State soccer program will host a dinner, Friday, Sept. 25 to celebrate its 20th Anniversary Season...event will take place at 7 p.m. in Pullman at Banyan's Restaurant...for more information, contact Cory McCoy at 509-335-0343 or

COUGARS NATIONALLY RANKED: Washington State is No. 21 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll and No. 22 in the Soccer America poll...second time in school history (1995) WSU has been ranked in the preseason.

EARLY BEGINNING TO THE SEASON: Friday's match against Idaho marks the earliest date to open a season in Cougar history...ninth-straight season WSU has played in August and 11th overall...WSU is 9-4-3 in August matches all-time, including 3-0-1 at home...under Matt Potter, the Cougars are 6-3-3, including 1-0-1 at Lower Soccer Field.

COUGARS IN SEASON OPENERS: Washington State is 16-3-1 in season openers and has won five straight...Cougars are 12-6-2 in home openers and 6-1-0 when opening the season at home.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: The Cougars are 9-0-3 in their last 12 matches at home against nonranked the last six years, WSU is 19-4-4 (84.0 winning percentage) in Pullman against nonranked teams.

SERIES AGAINST IDAHO: Washington State is 5-1-0 all-time against Idaho...Cougars have won five-straight, all by shutout...WSU has won all three meetings in Pullman (2002, 2006 and 2008) while outscoring the Vandals 6-0 in those matches.

NEW FACES: Along with 19 returnees, the Cougars have 11 new faces on this season's squad (10 freshmen and one transfer).

PROTECTING THE LEAD: Washington State is 53-0-1 all-time at home when leading at halftime...WSU has earned at least one point in 31 of its 32 matches overall when leading at intermission.

PROMOTIONS: Washington State will have several promotions this season at home soccer matches to help celebrate the Cougars' 20th Anniversary Season...season-long promotions included ZFUN 'Name That Tune,' Village Centre Cinemas Movie Trivia and Sam Dial Enter to addition, the first 20 fans at each home match will receive a prize and after each Cougar goal this season, be on the lookout for mini-soccer balls being thrown into the the season opener against Idaho, fans can enter a Guess the 20th Goal Contest for a chance to win a soccer ball signed by the 2009 Washington State women's soccer opportunity to meet this year's team and pick up your copy of the season's soccer poster will take place from 7-8 p.m., Friday at the National Lentil Festival in downtown Pullman.
