Aug. 21, 2009
Burlington, Vt. -- Washington Husky women's golf rising senior Molly Aronsson claimed her third Vermont State Women's Golf Association's amateur championship in four years, beating the field by 12 strokes.
Aronsson, from Shelburne, Vt., took a seven-stroke lead into the final round and did not let up on the final day. After posting first and second round scores of 73 and 70, she finished up with a 4-under 68 for a total score of 5-under par 211.
She led from start to finish at the Burlington Country Club and put an exclamation point on the title by carding birdies on the final four holes of the three-round tournament.
Aronsson is coming off a strong junior season for the Huskies where she was second on the team with a 75.83 stroke average per round. The Huskies return all five golfers, including Aronsson, from their 2008-09 squad that finished 10th at the 2009 NCAA Central Regionals, just missing advancing to the NCAA Championships.
