Meet Michael Philipp

Aug. 21, 2009

True freshman Michael Philipp is poised to make an early impact on the field. With his 6-foot-3, 313 pound frame, Philipp is a force to be reckoned with on the field. Rated the second-best run blocker and the third-best pass blocker at guard coming out of high school the Oregon State offensive line will be nothing but bigger and stronger with Philipp joining the team.

How has the adjustment been coming to Oregon State?

'I like it, I miss my family but meeting the new team, I'm really close with the team, I'm really happy to be here. I'm glad I made the decision to come to Oregon State.'

How's the adjustment been on the playing field?

'It's been a lot different from high school as far as the speed of the game. You have to know a lot more as far as the play book but I have such a good coach in Coach Cavanaugh and all of the offensive linemen helping me when I'm confused. Soit's been going good.'

How is it playing for Coach Cavanaugh?

'He's a good coach. I think he brings the best out of everybody. That's one of the reasons why I chose this school and after these few days I'm glad I chose this school. I'm sure I made the right decision.

What was the recruiting process like and how did you make your decision?

'I just wanted to go to a team where I was comfortable and a team with good coaching so Oregon State was that school.'

How do you spend your free time?

I just hang out with the guys in the dorms, all the football guys, or I hang out with my brother.'

Do you have a most memorable athletic moment?

'Not really, I don't have one that really stands out.'

Do you have a favorite athlete?

'I like Troy Polamalu. He's really humble. For as good as he is he has the right to be talking but he stays humble and does his job. That's what I like.'

How's the media attention been?

'It's been going good. I don't let it go to my head. I just try to stay focused on football and I don't really worry too much about the media.'

What kind of impact do you anticipate making?

'Hopefully my blocking will help make a strong offensive line. I strive to be the best offensive lineman I can be.'
