The Cougars finished the 2008 campaign strong, winning three of their final four matches, including a sweep at Arizona and Arizona State. In his second season at the helm, head coach Andrew Palileo has nine players returning, including five starters, that will build on last year's momentum and try for the first winning season in Pullman since 2002. Senior outside hitter Jackie Albright, junior middle blocker Brittany Tillman and senior setter Renee Bordelon will lead the Cougars with the best overall height on the team in a decade and be looked to for experience and leadership. Albright is the most experienced outside hitter for the Cougars, leading the team with 247 kills (2.57 kps) last season. Tillman was one of two Cougars who played in 100 sets or more last year, totaling 96 blocks on the year. Bordelon tallied 820 assists (9.76) in 2008 and needs 355 assists to crack WSU's top-10 career assists list. Experience will play a major factor for this Cougars this season. Add the guidance of Palileo and the Cougars have all the ingredients for a winning season.

    • Sept. 5 - Washington State at Utah, 9:00 a.m. PT
    • Nov. 21 - Washington State at Washington, 7:00 p.m. PT (FSN)
Going into its match against Utah, Washington State has defeated the Utes eight of the nine times these two teams have played. However, when the teams meet at the Utah Valley La Quinta Inn & Suites Invitational, Utah could make it a tougher challenge after being ranked No. 19 by Volleyball Magazine's Preseason Poll. The Utes, led by junior opposite hitter Karolina Bartowiak, will be a good test for an experienced WSU team. The Cougars travel to Seattle to take on the Huskies, the preseason favorite to win the Pac-10, with the game being televised on Fox Sports Net. The Cougars look to snap UW's 12-match win streak in the series and claim a win for the first time since 2002.
