THIS WEEK: Washington State travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the CC/Fairfield Inn Invitational hosted by Colorado College...Cougars will take on Syracuse, Friday, Aug. 28 at 12:30 p.m. Pacific and the host Tigers, Sunday, Aug. 30 at 1:30 p.m.

COUGARS NATIONALLY RANKED: Washington State is No. 19 in the current Soccer America poll and No. 24 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

PLAYING ON NEUTRAL FIELDS: Friday's meeting with Syracuse will be the 17th time under Matt Potter WSU has played on a neutral field...Cougars are 9-4-3 in the previous 16 matches.

ABOUT SYRACUSE: The Orange is 0-1-0 after dropping its season opener 2-1 in double overtime last Saturday at St. Bonaventure.

WSU AGAINST THE BIG EAST: The Cougars have never played Syracuse, but are 4-0-1 against current members of the Big East Conference...defeated Connecticut and Providence in 1994, defeated Louisville in 1997 and 1999, and tied West Virginia last year.

ABOUT COLORADO COLLEGE: The Tigers will open their season, Friday against Drake in the second game of the CC/Fairfield Inn Invitational before taking on the Cougars, Sunday.

SERIES AGAINST THE TIGERS: Washington State is 1-2 all-time against Colorado College...lost 6-0 to the No. 7 Tigers on the road in 1991...won 2-0 at home in 1994 on its way to the first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history...lost 2-1 in Missoula, Mont., during the 1995 season.

NEW FACES: In it season opening win over Idaho, Washington State started four freshmen and junior transfer Meghan Berlingo...Shannon McFadden and Mariah Cameron started on the backline, Melanie Johnston was in the midfield and Brandi Vega was a forward...Berlingo was in goal to open the season...redshirt-freshman Megan Murphy and freshman goalkeeper Ariana Byrd also saw playing time against the Vandals.

AUGUST SUCCESS: Washington State is 6-0-3 in its last nine matches played in August...Cougars have posted five shutouts during the stretch.

ACROSS THE U.S.A.: The upcoming matches in Colorado Springs, Colo., will raise the number of states, not including Washington, the Cougars have played nonconference matches in under Matt Potter to 12...WSU has played in North Carolina, Texas, Montana, California, Utah, Idaho, Tennessee, Oregon, Nevada, Indiana and Virginia.
