Loyal Husky Fans Welcomed To In-Season Practices
Aug. 26, 2009
When Steve Sarkisian was introduced as Washington's head football coach last winter, one of the loudest cheers of his press conference occurred when he invited Husky fans and media to attend football practices.
Throughout spring practice and fall camp, essentially every practice has been completely open to the public and media and fans have attended in droves. Several practices and scrimmages have seen crowds of as many as several thousand come out to Husky Stadium to see the Husky prepare for Coach Sark's inaugural season as a head coach.
'The response we have had from loyal Husky fans has been nothing short of sensational,' said Sarkisian, who's Huskies open the 2009 season a week from Saturday against 11th-ranked LSU. 'Our players and coaches have really enjoyed having our fans come out to practice. They really create a great atmosphere and help our players understand that they have a great deal of support from our community. We like having our fans there and it is clear they enjoy coming out as well.'
Beginning Saturday, Aug. 29, Coach Sark is extending his invitation to watch practice during the regular-season. All members of the Tyee Club as well as football season ticket holders, former Husky players, family of current players, high-school prospects and coaches as well as members of the media can visit practice each Monday through Thursday throughout the season.
To attend practice, no advance RSVP is necessary. Fans with the affiliations listed above should simply check in at the entrance located at the northeast corner of Husky Stadium (next to Husky Softball Stadium) and present photo identification.
In preparation for its night game in the season-opener against LSU, next week's practices will begin at 7:15 p.m. Monday through Wednesday (Aug. 31-Sept. 2) and at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3. The Huskies will practice Saturday, Aug. 29, at 10:30 a.m.
Practice schedules will change from week to week before school starts. Make sure to check GoHuskies.com for specific information.
