UCLA's Stephens, Perk Named To Soccer America Preason All-America Team

Aug. 26, 2009

UCLA seniors Michael Stephens and Brian Perk were selected to Soccer America's Preseason All-America team. Stephens, who earned selection to the magazine's MVPs second team last year, is a first-team preseason honoree, while Perk was named to the second team.

Stephens, a midfielder from Naperville, IL, is a member of the U.S. Under-20 National Team and is the reigning Pac-10 Player of the Year after leading UCLA in scoring with 23 points (7g, 9a) in 2008. Stephens was named to this season's M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List and was also named to College Soccer News' preseason All-America first team.

Perk, who hails from Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, is the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. Under-20 National Team and has allowed just one goal in eight games with the U-20s this year. Last season at UCLA, he earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors after posting a 0.45 goals against average and five shutouts in nine conference games.

Soccer America ranked UCLA No. 9 in the nation in its preseason poll.
