Tailback Stafon Johnson ran for a pair of short touchdowns and quarterback Matt Barkley threw a TD and ran for another as USC's first/second teamers shut out the Trojan service team, 36-0, in an intrasquad scrimmage in front of 6,000 fans in the Coliseum on a hot Saturday (Aug. 29) afternoon.

Johnson scored on runs of 2 and 3 yards. Barkley, who several days earlier was named the Trojan starter, completed 10-of-17 passes for 159 yards. He hit tight end Blake Ayles for a 4-yard score and he also had a 1-yard scoring sneak. He also threw an interception off a deflected pass in his first series.

Quarterback Aaron Corp, coming off a broken bone in his leg suffered early in fall camp, was 5-of-7 for 89 yards in late action.

The other scores came on a 1-yard run by tailback Marc Tyler and a safety by linebacker Jordan Campbell, who tackled tailback Curtis McNeal in the end zone.

Cornerback Byron Moore picked off Barkley, while quarterback Garrett Green had 3 of his passes for the service team intercepted (by safety Drew McAllister and cornerbacks Kevin Thomas and T.J. Bryant).

Leading tacklers were defensive tackle DaJohn Harris and safety Spencer Spiegel, with 6 stops each. Defensive end Nick Perry had 4 tackles for losses, with 2 sacks.

Starting wide receiver Ronald Johnson broke his collarbone while getting tackled after making a 34-yard reception and he is expected to be sidelined 6 weeks.

Seven-time defending Pac-10 champion USC opens its 2009 season this Saturday (Sept. 5) when it hosts San Jose State.
