Q&A With Katie Benz

BERKELEY - The No. 14 California women's soccer team is returning to home action with two games against stiff competition in No. 10 Texas A&M on Friday and No. 25 Texas on Sunday. Sophomore Katie Benz, who has already notched a goal this season, is prepared for action this week after getting 96 minutes of playing time under her belt in the first three games, including 46 minutes in the official season opener against Nevada. Last season as a true freshman, Benz Registered the game-winning goal against Arizona with a shot to the back left corner and played in 13 games. CalBears.com talked to Katie Benz to learn more about her off the field.
CalBears.com: You were born in Nova Scotia, when did you move to the United States?
Katie Benz: When I was 18 months old.
CalBears.com: You participated in track and field in high school, what made you decide to pursue soccer at the collegiate level? What events did you do in track?
KB: I stayed with soccer because it is what I love while track was just for fun. I ran the 100, 4x100, 400, and the 4x400.
CalBears.com: What would you like to be doing in ten years?
KB: Maybe pursuing a singing career
CalBears.com: What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
KB: That nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.
CalBears.com: If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would buy?
KB: I would buy a dog.
CalBears.com: Where would you most like to travel?
KB: I would go to Greece.
CalBears.com: What were your initial impressions of Berkeley?
KB: I thought it was entertaining and inviting.
CalBears.com: You're entering into your second year here, what surprised you most about college?
KB: How many different people you can meet.
