UA Soccer falls to Virginia

Sept. 4, 2009

TEMPE--In their first match of the Sun Devil Desert Classic, the Wildcats' failure to capitalize on chances led to a 4-1 loss to the University of Virginia.

The Wildcats, now 0-3-1, scored their only goal of the match in the final minute of the game, with senior Samantha Drees' penalty kick.

'Tonight's loss was a big disappointment.' Said head coach Dan Tobias, 'We had two really good chances to get on the board in the first thirty minutes of the game. One was a pass to Alex Davis from Alex Smith, which went wide, and another was a shot taken by Renae Cuellar, which was saved by the GK.'

'We can't keep giving up these chances,' Tobias said, 'I'm glad that we kept fighting, but we really need to start scoring and cutting down on our errors. I know that we're a good team, we just need to show everyone else.'

Arizona looks to bounce back Sunday, September 6 against Old Dominion at 11 a.m. at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe.
