Bordelon Named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Washington State senior setter Renee Bordelon has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for Aug. 31-Sept. 7, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
The Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, native earned MVP honors at Utah Valley La Quinta Inn & Suites Invitational after leading the Cougars to three sweeps, including an upset victory over No. 17 Utah, in addition to wins over Missouri and Utah Valley. WSU also defeated Weber State, 3-0 Monday evening. She led the Cougar offense to a combined .311 hitting percentage in the four victories, including a .478 attack percentage in the win over Utah.
For the week, Bordelon tallied 153 assists (12.75 assists per set), 11 kills and four service aces. In the Cougars upset win over No. 17 Utah, she registered 36 assists and five kills. Bordelon has been vital to the Cougars best start since 2002. The Cougars are 7-0, and dating back to last season, are on a nine-match winning streak.
This is the first weekly honor of Bordelon, Washington State's 20th Pac-10 Player of the Week and the first time a Cougar has been honored since Sept. 15, 2003, when Zanda Bautre was selected.
