ASU Men's Golf Ranked 5th As Fall Season Nears

After a busy and successful summer for an Arizona State team that advanced to the Elite 8 at the 2009 NCAA Championships, the Sun Devils have been ranked 5th in Golf World Magazine's 2009-10 preseason poll.

The 2009 NCAA stroke-play runners-up return three All-Americans, including junior Knut Borsheim, who won the Norwegian Open in August, and sophomores Jesper Kennegard andScott Pinckney.

Sophomore Chan Kim, who this summer became the first Sun Devil in 12 years to win the Pacific Coast Amateur, was named to the third-team in Golf World's preseason player rankings and will be looking to build on a successful freshman campaign. Another golfer tearing up the summer circuit is junior James Byrne, who recently placed fourth at the European Amateur and posted wins at the Tennant Cup and the SolarSport East of ScotlandAmateur Championship by shooting a 22-under-par 262 (65-63-67-67).

Six Pac-10 teams join ASU in Golf World's annual preseason rankings. No.1 Stanford and No. 3 Washington give the conference a presence in the top five, UCLA and USC rank No. 15 and No. 16, respectively, and No. 22 Oregon and No. 24 California round out the top 25.
