Men's Soccer Ranked Sixth in Far West Region

Corvallis, Ore. - The Oregon State men's soccer team is ranked sixth in the far west region according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) it was announced.

The Beavers are tied for sixth in the region with the University of San Diego who is 2-0 as of Sept. 8.

Oregon State is off to one of their best starts in recent history after going 2-0-1 in its first three games. It opened the regular season at home by hosting the OSU/Nike Challenge where it went 2-0 with a 3-1 win over San Jose State and a 4-0 victory over Cal State Bakersfield.

Oregon State is in its first season under new head coach Steve Simmons who has brought new life to the program. Last year it scored 19 goals in 19 games; it has already scored 8 goals in three games so far this season.

Sophomores Colin Mitchell, Danny Mwanga, and John Swenson lead the team with two goals apiece going into play this weekend.

The Beavers are currently on the road in Spokane, Wash, where they will compete in the Gonzaga/Nike Soccer Classic this weekend. They played Gonzaga to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday Sept. 8 in a darkness shortened match.

Oregon State will take on Detroit Mercy Friday, Sept. 11 at 1:30pm and Georgia Southern Sunday, Sept. 13 at 10:30am.
