Husky Crew Announces 2009-10 Schedule

Sept. 11, 2009

SEATTLE - The Husky crew announced its 2009-10 schedule, including five home races on Montlake Cut and a return to the Head of the Charles Regatta.

The women start the year off with the Tail of the Lake at home on the cut on October 4 at 8am. Just two weeks later, both crews head to Boston, Mass. for the 45th running of Head of the Charles Regatta. Last fall, the Washington men won the men's championship eights, becoming only the second collegiate team to win since 1983. The women of Washington finished sixth in the championship eight in the 2008 edition of the race, and were the second U.S. university to cross the finish line.

The Huskies wrap up fall racing with the traditional Head of the Lake regatta on their home turf on Nov. 8 at 8am.

Class Day kicks off the spring racing slate on March 27. Last year, the freshman men and the junior women picked up wins in the traditional start to Washington rowing season.

Just a week later, the Dawgs head south to the Golden State to take on Stanford and others in the Stanford Invitational on April 3-4, before returning home April 10 to host in-state Washington State. The Husky men will also host Oregon State on April 10.

April 29 marks the 100th California dual, this year being contested at Redwood Shores. At the 99th race last night on Montlake Cut, the men stunned the Bears, sweeping all their races, while the women earned wins in the varsity four and novice races.

The Huskies return home one last time, hosting the 24th annual Windermere Cup / Opening Day regatta on May 1.

After two weeks of training, the crews head back to California for the Pac-10 Championships on Lake Natoma on May 16.

The 2010 NCAA Championships are slated for May 28-30 on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova and the IRA Championships are scheduled for June 3-5 on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ.
