UW's Live Television Streak Appears To Be Ending

Sept. 14, 2009

SEATTLE - For the first time since 2006, a University of Washington football game will go untelevised.

The Pac-10 Conference, in conjunction with television partners FSN, ABC/ESPN and Versus, made its selections for Sept. 26 and did not select the Huskies' contest at Stanford as one of the three games in its weekly television package.

The Cardinal athletic department elected not to move off its standard game time of 6 p.m. and make a request for a league waiver for a local telecast - which would have provided the UW's partner, FSN Northwest, the rights to televise the game. The home team for all Pac-10 games controls the kickoff time when the game is not picked-up for a league television appearance.

FSN Northwest owns the UW's exclusive television rights, after the Pac-10 makes its weekly television selections. The network has the contractual obligation to televise every Husky game, provided the game time can be moved into a window that does not have a head-to-head conflict with a Pac-10 telecast.

Prior to the season, the ABC/ESPN selected the California at Oregon game for a 12:30 start. Today, the Pac-10 announced the Arizona at Oregon State game will start at 4:30 p.m. and will be televised by Versus and the Washington State at USC game will kickoff at 7:15 and will be televised by FSN.

The last time Washington played a football game that was not televised was on Nov. 11, 2006 when the Huskies faced Stanford at Husky Stadium. Washington's home contest against USC this weekend will be televised live by ABC/ESPN and will mark the 29th-straight game on television.

Every UW football game is available on the radio and Internet via the Washington ISP Sports Network. The flagship station for the network in the Seattle area is 950 KJR AM and every game is streamed live on a subscription basis via Dawg Channel All-Access on GoHuskies.com.
