Welcome to the Beaver BasketBlog: An Inside Look at Men's Hoops

Sept. 17, 2009

Welcome to the newest feature on osubeavers.com, “The Beaver BasketBlog.” With basketball season right around the corner, and interest in the program growing each and every day, it’s my hope this blog will be an opportunity to keep fans connected and share as much information as possible regarding the Beavers.

Using links, pictures, news and notes while incorporating some general thoughts, the goal of the blog is to let you know what's going on in the world of Oregon State men’s basketball, both past and present, as well as the topics throughout college basketball.

So, without further adieu, let’s get started. With all the media attention and talk Oregon State received throughout last year and into the summer, one quote from head men’s basketball Craig Robinson seemed to resonate the most:

“When we pack Gill Coliseum, we win games.” Craig Robinson

Robinson uttered the quote back in August at an Albany Beaver Huddle. The quote is especially important heading into this season. According to many of the preseason prognostications, Oregon State is predicted to do some good things in 2009-10.

In case you have missed the pre-season hype surrounding the program, a quick sample: Yahoo Sports has Oregon State making the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship for the first time since 1990, an ESPN.com article predicts a third-place finish in the Pac-10 for the Beavers and Athlon Sports College Basketball Preview has Oregon State slated for a fourth-place finish and the spot in the NIT.

In short, after Oregon State exceeded all expectations last year and captured the 2009 College Basketball Invitational title, the Beavers could be competing for a NCAA or NIT berth this season. If that’s the case, EVERY game is important. The Gill Coliseum crowd was electric in wins over Oregon, Cal, Stanford and throughout the CBI last year; and, that type of game-day environment could equate to even more wins this season.

With that in mind, tickets for the 2009-10 men’s basketball season are on sale now through the Oregon State ticket office. Click this link for more information on season tickets (call 1-800-GO-BEAVS to purchase); or, if you would like more information on the Weekend Plan, click here. The Oregon State Ticket Office is also offering the Orange Pride Five Pack, where fans can pick two non-conference games and three Pac-10 Conference games for $75 (chair-back)/$50 (bench). Right now, these can only be purchased by contacting the ticket office at 1-800-GO-BEAVS; but, will be available to purchase on-line beginning on Monday.

It’s certainly going to be an exciting season and I know Robinson and the entire team and staff truly appreciate all of the support.

Speaking of support, thanks for taking a few moments out of your day to read the first installment of “The Beaver BasketBlog.” This blog is about Oregon State men’s basketball and its fans play a huge role in what the team does and accomplishes. So, I want to keep you involved. Feel free to send me comments, suggestions, questions - anything on your mind - by clicking here. I’ll be back with another announcement tomorrow regarding more ways to stay connected with the program.

Thanks and see you soon!
