Junior Carries Sun Devils Through Day One Of Invitational

The fifth-ranked Sun Devils are tied for fourth place after shooting a 13-over par 293 in the first day of the Olympia Fields/ Fighting Illini Invitational. The Devils are knotted up with San Diego St. and tournament-host Illinois. Scott Pinckney tallied four birdies en route to a 2-under par 68 and is tied with Northwestern's Eric Chun and Florida State's Seath Lauer for the individual tournament lead.

Senior Tristan Bierenbroodspot is tied for 10th with six other golfers after finishing with a 1-over par 71 and junior Jesper Kennegard fired a 5-over par 75 to place 36th. Senior Knut Borsheim shot a 9-over par 79 to finish tied for 64th and junior Cameron Edens ended the day in 72nd with a 12-over par 82.

Northwestern recorded a 6-over par 286 and is holding on to the overall team lead, while Florida State is in second with an 8-over par 288. No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Oklahoma St. and Pac-10 rival USC ended the day tied for ninth after each team shot a 15-over par 295.
