Murray Named Primetime Performer Of The Week
Sept. 29, 2009
SEATTLE - Washington senior Nikki Murray was honored today for her clutch performances last weekend, being named one of CollegeSoccer360.com's Primetime Performers of the Week.
Murray scored late goals in each of the Huskies' two games in California last weekend, the first of which was a golden goal against UC-Irvine which gave UW a 3-2 victory. Murray got control of the ball 35 yards away and sent in a laser which curled over the head of the Anteaters' goalkeeper for the game-winner just two minutes into overtime.
On Sunday, the Huskies and Cal-State Fullerton appeared headed for a scoreless overtime, but in the 89th minute, Murray took a shot from 20 yards to give UW a 1-0 lead before the Titans dramatically tied it up with eight seconds remaining. The teams settled for a 1-1 draw.
Murray has had a breakout season in 2009. The senior came into the year with just one goal and four points in her previous three seasons combined but she has three goals, two assists and eight points through just nine games this season. She has played in eight of the nine games, making just one start.
The Des Moines, Wash., was one of 17 players honored from around the nation. To view the complete list, click here.
The Huskies return home this weekend to face Gonzaga on Friday at 2 p.m. and Montana on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in their final two non-conference matches.
