ITA All-American Championships Up Next For Stanford Tennis

STANFORD, Calif.- The Stanford men's and women's tennis teams kick off their respective 2009-10 campaigns next week at the ITA All-American Championships.
Six members of the men's squad will be in action beginning Monday when qualifying play gets underway at the D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oka. Three days of qualifying competition transition into the main draw, which starts Thursday, Oct. 8.
Junior Greg Hirshman (16-7, 10-4 duals in 2008-09), freshman Matt Kandath, sophomore Ryan Thacher (20-9, 19-7) and senior Richard Wire (26-10, 19-5) are entered in the qualifying singles draw, while Kandath and Wire will represent the Cardinal in the qualifying doubles draw.
Appearing in the main singles draw for Stanford will be junior Alex Clayton (31-12, 13-6) and sophomore Bradley Klahn (35-9, 30-5), while Klahn and Thacher team up in the main doubles draw. Clayton and Klahn have both earned top-15 national preseason rankings, with Clayton holding down the No. 7 spot and Klahn checking in at No. 15. The doubles team of Klahn and Thacher comes in ranked No. 8.
On the women's side, four Cardinal players will participate when competition begins Tuesday at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. After two days of qualifying action, the main draw gets underway Thursday, Oct. 8.
Senior Lindsay Burdette (21-10, 17-6) and junior Carolyn McVeigh (26-10, 19-5) will take part in the singles qualifying while McVeigh and freshman Mallory Burdette will team up in the doubles qualifying.
The main singles draw will feature senior Hilary Barte (35-6, 22-1), tabbed No. 5 in the national preseason rankings. Barte and Burdette, checking in as the nation's No. 3 doubles team, are included in the main draw.
