Schnack Wins Two Titles in Berkeley

LOS ANGELES - Women's tennis players Yasmin Schnack and Andrea Remynse enjoyed a successful showing while competing at the Cal/Nike ITA Invitational over the weekend in the Bay Area.

Schnack, who was seeded third in the Flight A singles draw, won five straight matches to win the event. She knocked off top-seeded and fourth-ranked Jana Juricova from Cal, 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals before downing 18th-ranked Marina Cossou, also from Cal, 6-3, 6-3 in Sunday's final.

Schnack also teamed with Remynse to claim the doubles title at the event, winning all four of their matches. Seeded second in the Flight A draw, Remynse and Schnack upset the top-seeded Cal duo of Juricova/Mari Andersson, 9-7 in Sunday's final.

Back here in Los Angeles, UCLA had several players competing in the pre-qualifying for the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Bruin freshman Stephanie Hoffpauir won two matches and was one win away from reaching the qualifying draw, however she fell to Aerial Ellis of Texas, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday. Freshman Pamela Montez and sophomore Nina Pantic both fell in first round singles action.

Montez and Pantic did advance through the pre-qualifying draw in doubles, however, winning three matches over the weekend. Complete draws from the Riviera/ITA All-America Championships can be accessed HERE.
