TULSA, Okla. - Top Husky men's tennis player Jeevan Neducnhezhiyan had a tough start to his 2009-10 season today, coming up short in his first round match at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships. Nedunchezhiyan was taking part in the elite tournament's main draw for the first time.

Hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, the All-American Championships kicks the college tennis season into high gear. It is the first of three individual national championships on the season, the next being the ITA National Indoor Championships and the final being the NCAA Championships.

Nedunchezhiyan, ranked 32nd in singles in the preseason poll, went against 34th-ranked Marek Michalicka of Wisconsin in the first round. Nedunchezhiyan could not get much headway in either set, dropping a 6-3, 6-2 decision.

Washington will now turn its attention to the ITA Regional Championships, which begin Oct. 23 in Berkeley, Calif.
