Oct. 9, 2009

BERKELEY - California's Eric Mina was named the Pac-10 Player of the Month on Friday in recognition of his stellar opening two tournaments to begin the fall season

Mina fired a 10-under 67-67-69 to win the Spartan Golf Classic Sept. 19-20 after finishing tied for 9th (-1) at the Golfweek Conference Challenge that ended Sept. 1.

A junior from Fremont, Calif., and graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory School, Mina got off to the best start of his Golden Bear career with a 69.6 stroke average in September. While he had five top-10 finishes in 2008-09, including consecutive top-10s twice, the Spartan Golf Classic was his first individual title.

Mina and the Bears host the Alister MacKenzie at the Meadow Club in Fairfax on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 12-13.
