Women's Tennis Wraps Up Play at All-American

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - No. 4-ranked California women's tennis sophomore Jana Juricova fell in two close sets Saturday, Oct. 10, in the singles semifinal of the 2009 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, at the Riviera Tennis Club. In a two-seed versus four-seed match, Juricova held the latter rating and put up a good fight against the No. 2-ranked player in the country, Chelsey Gullickson of Georgia, before falling, 7-6, 7-5. Gullickson won the first-set tiebreaker, 7-3. By virtue of her advancing to the singles semifinal at the All-American, Juricova has already secured a highly coveted berth into the 2009 ITA National Indoor Tennis Championships (Nov. 5-8) in New Haven, Conn.

In the doubles back-draw semifinal, Juricova and junior Mari Andersson fell in another hard-fought match to No. 15-ranked Kristy Frilling and Kali Krisik of Notre Dame. The No. 2-ranked Bear duo pushed the Irish tandem to an eight-all tie before being edged out, 10-7, in the tiebreaker.
