Oct. 11, 2009

PULLMAN, Wash. - Team Fanelli scored twice in the top of the sixth inning as part of a 3-1 victory over Team Vucinich in Game 3 of the Washington State University Fall World Series.

With the victory, Team Fanelli took a 2-1 series lead and is a win away from the title in the best-of-five format.

Already leading 1-0, Team Fanelli scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning off right-hander Seth Harvey. Travis Coulter singled with one out and stole second with two outs and Matt Fanelli at the plate. Fanelli drove home Coulter when he lined a 1-2 pitch into the right field corner. Jay Ponciano followed with a single up the middle to plate Fanelli and increase Team Fanelli's advantage to 3-0.

Team Vucinich put together a rally in the final frame against Connor Lambert. With two outs, Kyle Buchanan doubled to right. Riley Tubbs beat out a infield hit and Taylor Hudson singled home a run. However, Lambert induced a ground ball to first base by Kyle Johnson to notch a save.

Game 4 of the series is Tuesday at 4 p.m.
