Lim Leads Trojans On First Day Of The Prestige

Sophomore Steve Lim is tied for 16th and freshman Sam Smith is tied for 22nd after the first round of the 2009 The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif., on Sunday (Oct. 11). As a team, the No. 9 Trojans finished seventh at 6-over 294, 14 strokes back of first-place UCLA (280).

In a shotgun start in which he began on the ninth hole, Lim carded pars over his first nine holes before a birdie on 18. He also birdied the 2nd hole to offset a pair of bogeys to lead the Trojans at even 72.

Smith had three birdies on the day en route to a 1-over 73 while freshman Martin Trainer, who began with five bogeys over the first 11 holes, birdied four of the final eight to help him get to 2-over 74, tied for 31st.

Junior Matthew Giles is tied for 43rd at 3-over 75 while junior Bo DeHuff is tied for 69th at 7-over 79.

Three Trojans played as individuals and were led by freshman Stewart Hagestad, who is tied for 22nd at 1-over 73. Junior Daniel Park is tied for 31st at 3-over 74 while freshman T.J. Vogel is tied for 56th at 5-over 77.
