STANFORD, Calif. - The past week was an exciting one as we were finally preparing for our first Pac-10 games! We have had a great season so far but our first big goal this year is to win the Pac-10 title, so as we started practice this week we had a renewed sense of purpose. Tuesday was an exciting practice as we welcomed back some of our recent alumni - Allison Falk and Marisa Abegg made guest appearances for our 5v5 tournament, and Barnie jumped in goal. Their presence helped lift our level even higher, and we played several competitive games before moving on to the rest of our Tuesday routine.
Wednesday flew by and before we knew it we were feasting at Jimmy V's before heading to the San Jose Airport. We arrived in Oregon to beautiful weather, although a little colder than we are used to at Stanford. After a bus ride through the countryside and a short practice at OSU, we quickly checked in to our hotel before heading to dinner at the Oregon Electric Station. The restaurant was really nice, and our room made it feel like we were in an old train car. They also had the BEST rolls I think any of us had ever had. Needless to say we went through a few too many baskets which we justified by the need to carbo-load.
The next day we got down to business at OSU; after being tied at halftime, our second-half scoring trend continued as we put in three great goals. The surprise appearance of the Stanford band (in town for the football game at OSU) helped us feel at home, and it was great to cross the field after our first Pac 10 win greeted by the band playing our familiar songs.
Saturday was another typical road trip day in the hotel; after a delicious lunch at a friend of the O'Hara's house, we spent the afternoon cheering on our football team, doing schoolwork, and resting up for our next game. And the rest paid off! We came out strong on Sunday and garnered a 5-1 win over Oregon, thanks in part to Kelley O'Hara's first hat trick! It was an exciting day all around, and we travelled home in high spirits and already excited for our next Pac 10 games against the L.A. schools.
