Men's Basketball To Host Open Scrimmage
Oct. 15, 2009
BERKELEY - Cal fans will get their first opportunity to see the 2009-10 Golden Bears as the men's basketball program will be hosting an open scrimmage on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 5-6:30 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. Head coach Mike Montgomery's squad will hold a scrimmage open to the public from 5-6 p.m. Following the scrimmage, fans will have an autograph session with the players and coaches until 6:30 p.m.
Fans will have a chance to win two basketballs signed by Montgomery, as well as two courtside seats to a select nonconference game.
The open scrimmage will include activities even the youngest fans will enjoy like an inflatable free throw contest inside Haas Pavilion. The Cal Spirit Teams will be involved with the Mic Men and Cal Dance Team leading the cheers.
Cal fans can purchase specially-priced ticket packs for the 2009-10 men's basketball season before single-game tickets become available to the general public. Fans can choose between a 7-Game Flex Pack for $161, which allows you to pick three nonconference and four conference games of your choice, or the Cal Fan 4-Pack for $110, which includes UCLA, Stanford, Arizona and one nonconference game of your choice. Other 7-Game Flex Pack and Cal Fan 4-Pack benefits include flexibility and savings over single-ticket prices.
Cal is led by 2009 All-Pac-10 first-team selections, senior guards Jerome Randle and Patrick Christopher. The Bears bring back four of their starting five from a year ago, as senior forwards Theo Robertson and Jamal Boykin also return. In 2008-09, Cal advanced to its first NCAA Tournament since 2006 and achieved its first top 25 national ranking since 2003. After getting picked to finish eighth in the conference preseason poll, the Bears ended the regular season tied for third in the Pac-10.
Cal has earned some high preseason rankings thus far - No. 8 Blue Ribbon College Yearbook, No. 14 Athlon Sports, No. 16 The Sporting News and ESPN The Magazine, and No. 20 CBSSports.
The next opportunity to see the Bears will be when Cal hosts Chico State in an exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. The Bears officially open their 2009-10 season on Nov. 9 when they host Murray State at 8 p.m. at Haas Pavilion as part of the 2009 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.
