Brian Perk Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week
Oct. 19, 2009
Senior goalkeeper Brian Perk (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Edison Academic Center) of the UCLA men's soccer team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 12-18.
A week after suffering an eye injury that required a hospital visit during the Bruins' game at San Diego State, Perk returned to action and earned a pair of shutouts over Top 20 opponents in #10 California (1-0) and #18 Stanford (2-0). Perk's defense held its opponents to single-digit shot totals, but he came up big in key moments to help the Bruins record the key conference victories. In the Cal game, he made a leaping save on an on-target shot by Hector Jimenez in the 79th minute to preserve the shutout, and in the Stanford game, he dove to punch out a dangerous cross in front of the box in the 62nd minute as UCLA was clinging to a 1-0 lead. Perk's two shutouts were his second and third of the season in six games played. In his three games back since returning to Westwood from the FIFA U-20 World Cup, he has posted a 0.38 goals against average with two shutouts. His overall season goals against average is 0.54.
This is Perk's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and third of his career.
