Freshman Andy Brown Out For Season With Torn ACL

Oct. 19, 2009

STANFORD, Calif.- Freshman Andy Brown will miss the 2009-10 campaign due to an ACL tear in his left knee.

Brown, a 6-8 forward from Yorba Linda, Calif., suffered the injury during a team practice on Saturday. The setback is the second in a 10-month span for Brown, who was recovering from an ACL tear in the same knee back in January, cutting short his senior season at Mater Dei High School.

'This is an unfortunate loss for our program and I know how much of a disappointment this is for Andy,' said head coach Johnny Dawkins. 'Andy had worked very hard leading up to the start of practice and we were expecting him to contribute this year. I wish him well in his recovery and look forward to having him back next season.'

Brown guided Mater Dei High School to state championships during his sophomore and junior seasons. An all-state selection as a junior and two-time all-league honoree, Brown was tabbed an All-CIF Southern Section first team selection as a junior while also earning All-Orange County first team accolades.

Stanford opens its season on Friday, Nov. 13, at San Diego.
