Causing a Racket: Kelcy McKenna
Oct. 20, 2009
We are finished with weekend practices for the fall 2009 and I cannot believe how fast pre-season is wrapping up. The fall has been a great opportunity for everyone on our team to get a fresh taste of college tennis, after a break during the summer.
My week started out early on Monday at 7AM! Monday is our individualized practice day. The girls go in groups of twos and threes for specialized help with various aspects of their games. Scheduling is a little hectic for our coaches though, as we come at many different times throughout the day. Differentiating practice times and styles breaks up the week for us and provides the girls with a smaller player-to-coach ratio. I really enjoy the individualized practices, because our coaches really take the time to tailor practices for each girl.
On a more somber note...The ball machine, a long time companion of Sun Devil Women's Tennis, is currently experiencing technical difficulties. Have no fear; the ball machine will be in full working condition in no time. A new part has been ordered thanks to the quick thinking of Coach Mac and delivery is expected in less than two weeks! The Devils have been working out constantly with their companion, the ball machine, throughout the fall 2009 season. As a team, we have discovered the ball machine never misses a single shot, and the girls believe we should try to emulate the green monster's impeccable technique and strokes.
