Get To Know The Beavs: Angela Misa

Angela Misa comes to Oregon State from a strong tenure at Visa High School in Southern California. She comes to Corvallis with extensive high school credentials and is expected to play a big role for OSU this season. She can be seen wearing No. 20 for the Beavers this season.

WHO: Angela Misa is a tall forward who was highly lauded in high school. She is a top rebounder and turned in one of the nation's best performances as a junior. Misa is an all-around player who has shown the ability to score, rebound and play strong defense with shot blocking abilities ... She is also a strong and aggressive player.

WHERE SHE COMES FROM: Angela Misa comes to Oregon State after lettering for three seasons at Vista High School for head coach Jenny Winn. In 2007-08, she averaged a team-leading 15 points and league-leading 12.7 rebounds per game as a junior. After her junior year, she earned Avocado League All-Star honors while helping guide Vista to a 19-6 record and an Avocado League title. She also averaged 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

Misa was recognized nationally as a junior by USA Today as having one of the top five performances of the year after grabbing 23 rebounds in a 49-30 win over Chula Vista High School. She also had 20 points, seven assists and four blocks in the victory

Misa proved to be an all-around excellent athlete in high school, also lettering in track and field and volleyball at Vista.

WHO SHE IS: Angela was born in San Diego but considers Oceanside her hometown. She is the daughter of Sinia and Petero Misa and has one brother, John, 13, and one sister, Emily, 8. Angela is majoring is human development and family sciences. Her favorite city to have visited (so far) is Atlanta and she wants to see New York. Angela is proficient in sign language and can speak some Samoan and Spanish. Before games, she always gets butterflies in her stomach and considers that a superstition. Angela's dream job would be a pediatrician or veterinarian. Her favorite sport besides basketball is volleyball. What's one word that could best describe her? That would have to be 'complicated.' Lastly, Angela chose Oregon State because of the coaches and the people.

Misa and the Beavers open up preparations for the 2009-10 season tonight when the team is allowed its first practice by the NCAA. Stay tuned to to learn more about members of the 2009-10 and to read more about the upcoming season. OSU opens its exhibition season Nov. 2 at legendary Gill Coliseum.
