Recapping Last Weekend:
Against No. 18 Arizon: The only match on the weekend slated the Sun Devils against in-state rivals, Arizona, who the Sun Devils hadn’t lost to at home since 2005, as well as having each of those wins end in a sweep for A State. Unfortunately the ‘Cats came to play on Friday night as they entered the match swinging .360 in the first set that ASU battled with ten tie scores and five lead changes in the set but Arizona outlasted the Sun Devils in the end with a 25-23 win. The set one loss seemed to take the wind out of ASU’s sails a bit as set two was all Arizona as they hit an amazing .519 in the set to blast by ASU 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead going into the break.
Not one to go quietly, ASU stormed back in the third set staving off seven tie scores and five lead changes to take the third 25-21 and cut UA’s lead in half 2-1. Four was all Arizona would need though as they came out hitting .353 with 18 kills that ASU couldn’t keep up with as UA put away the match in four with a 25-14 win.
Scouting This Weekend’s Competition/Series History:
No. 6 Stanford: The Sun Devils will face-off against the Wildcats for the 58th time in program history as they enter this weekend with a 4-53 all-time record against the Cardinal. In Pac-10 history since 1986 Stanford holds a 44-2 lead in the series with a flawless 23-0 record at home.
No. 15 Cal: The Sun Devils this weekend will face those grizzly Cal Bears for the 51st time in program history where the Sun Devils hold the edge 27-23 in the head-to-head. In Pac-10 history, the Sun Devils hold the edge 24-22, but at Cal the Bears hold the slight edge with a 12-11 home record against the Sun Devils.
