Wildcats Picked 9th By Coaches

WALNUT, Calif. - The University of Arizona women's basketball team was picked to finish in 9th place in the 2009-10 Pac-10 Preseason Women's Basketball Poll, released Wednesday morning by the Pac-10 office.
Arizona, which finished tied for 8th place with Washington State in 2008-09, received 22 points in the voting. Washington was picked 10th with 20 points while Oregon was a single point ahead of the Wildcats in 8th place.
Nine-time defending conference champion Stanford received 9 of 10 first place votes and was picked to win another title with 81 points. Bay Area rival California received 67 points and was selected second while Arizona State, which received the only other first place vote, was third with 64 points with UCLA one point behind in fourth place.
USC finished off the top five with 48 points while Washington State (33) and Oregon State (29) were picked sixth and seventh, repsectively.
The Wildcats were picked to finish in the bottom half of the conference for the fifth-straight season after being picked sixth prior to the 2005-06 campaign. The highest Arizona has ever been selected by the coaches was second, placed into that position in both 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Cats received a combined total of three first place votes in those polls.
The 2009-10 season tips off for Arizona on Saturday, November 14 when the Wildcats take on Iona in the first round of the Iona College Tip-Off Tournament in New Rochelle, N.Y. at 7:30 p.m. (EDT)
